One of the options that we usually use for Oracle Cloud applications implementation is Oracle Unified Method (OUM), which is a standard, broadly adaptive, rapid, and business-focused method. It includes an extensive project management framework that is focused on corporate-level IT strategy.

The method has 5 main phases:

  1. Project Design, which consists of contract review, detailed business scope preparation, work plan, and budget. It covers project revision with a customer and confirms the customer’s readiness to start the project. Also, it includes Project Team preparation, validation planning, and technical readiness assignment kick-off.
  2. Configuration is a fundamental phase where the setup applications are made. During the configuration stage, a team prepares the validation scripts for a Conference Room Pilot meeting to validate the configuration.
  3. Validation: the main step of validation is the Conference Room Pilot or CRP. It is a test of a specific scenario that the technical team prepares and presents to the end users (customers). In case, the test fails or partially succeeds the task goes back to Configure phase where the setup is redone, or some changes are made. In case the test is successful, and the end users are satisfied with the results, the project goes forward. The Configure–Validation step is repeated until the configuration goes Live. The last CRP is User Acceptance Test (UAT), which confirms the solution to be migrated to production.
  4. The Transition phase is when all configurations migrate to production. After the migration, the project team should reconcile and validate data in production and make the final validation of the system. As a result of the phase, the system goes Live.
  5. Realization is the final phase, where system use is monitored. In case of any technical issues raised by users, the necessary actions are taken to solve the issues. Here, customer feedback is crucial.

The key benefits of the OUM are:

  • Detailed Business scope definition
  • Flexibility: OUM is a solution-driven approach focusing on customer requirements.
  • Time Saving: Collaborative Project Team Mindset enables to deliver of quick results and appropriate solution.
  • Lower Costs: The method focuses on Standard Product Functionality
  • Low-level Project Risk: OUM uses experience-based standards and templates.

The main approach of the OUM is to keep the implementation simple and add complexity later when a company needs it. The solution is adapting while live and core product evolves rapidly, and upgrades are regular. Also, it focuses more on collaboration with the customer and points out that customer feedback is very important.
